Two in three boomer women over age 45 (64%) say it’s harder to shop for clothes since they turned 45, according to Vibrant Nation. More than three in four (78%) say it’s challenging to find clothes that flatter a changing body or that don’t read as “too young or too old.” The items most challenging to purchase are stylish and comfortable shoes (67%), jeans (59%), and swimsuits (54%).
Boomer women, on average, shop for clothes every two months and spend $165 on themselves per trip.
Their peers wield the most influence over their personal clothing style, and 94% say they recommend a great deal or perfect item to their friends; 19% post reviews online.
Boomer women offer suggestions on making these shopping experiences a little more comfortable. As such, 44% want sizing information to be less confusing, particularly online. More than one in two (54%) want retailers to keep classic items in stock. With 37% of these women saying they dislike trying on items, 30% would like more comfortable dressing rooms. One in three (34%) say sales staff are unhelpful.
