New Movers’ Most Common Service Provider Changes

One-third of all internet (33%) and cable TV (32%) subscribers who move change their provider, according to an Epsilon survey of 963 households that recently moved.

That’s not as bad as the number who change their water provider (41%) but consumers don’t have a choice as to whom their water provider is, while they clearly have a choice about which internet and cable TV service to use.

The most popular reasons for moving are to have more space (22%), be in a new neighborhood (18%) and be closer to family (18%).

Movers present opportunities for marketers, as 75% of owners and 57% of renters reported making purchases related to their move, with furniture the most popular type.

Interestingly, almost 1 in 10 cell phone owners said they had switched providers.
