One of the last reasons many still use a pay-tv subscription may be coming to an end. Live sports is a popular reason for keeping the traditional TV viewing packages (Comcast, Verizon, DirecTV, etc) but now streaming services are venturing into the live sports arena.
Steon Hall Sports Poll reports that this year, less sports fan have maintained their cable and satellite services. Only 3 in 10 sports fan surveyed had a cable subscription (-39%) and satellite subscribers fell from 22% last year to just 16%.
For fans of soccer, NBC’s streaming service Peacock covers Premier League Football and may have wooed many fans over from cable and satellite, where they would have to pay additional fees to watch the coverage from across the pond. Peacock has the coverage built into their standard service, though you can pay more for ad-free versions of shows that are not live.
